Fees and Insurance
Australian Psychological Society, our professional association recommends up to $230 per 50 minutes consultation and pro-rata for longer sessions.
In community psychology it is recognised few can afford that so most psychologists charge dor their services at a considerable discount to these rates, depending on their experience, skills, reputation and effectiveness.
My fees work on a sliding scale from $250 per 50 minute session down to $125 per 50 minute session depends on means, assets and family circumstances. What fees you pay me is negotiated at our first session. Fees are payable at time of service, although I tend to take payment every second session to minimise the time administration tasks take.
Writing reports, consulting, court appearances are negotiated individually based on the above rates. If you are involved with legal proceedings, consult with your lawyer at the same time you are exploring the option of seeing a psychologist for counselling or assessment.
Medicare currently offer a temporary partial rebate on certain psychology services. Consult your GP or access Medicare website for clarification.
Workcover and other forms of incident insurance may cover psychology fees. Check this out with your claim administrator/rehabilitation case manager. In most cases you are free to choose which psychologist you see for support via recommendation/referral from your GP.
Private Healthcare ‘Extras’ insurance often allow an annual limit for rebates for psychology services. Ask your insurance group about this.
Carers NSW offer psychology rebates to carers/support persons. Whilst ‘Victims of Crime NSW’ offer similar. Look up their respective website to find out more.
I am a registered psychology services provider with both Medicare, Workcover and Carers NSW.
